Well, our beach clean-up today was canceled due to possible dust. Hm. I saw dust on the horizon yesterday, can imagine it was pretty bad in the North. You never know with the weather here.
It's a gorgeous morning though. For some reason I didn't feel like going to the beach, so I decided to take the dogs at least for a neighbourhood walk.
I wanted to take some more photos of the former farmland (at least I think that's what it is) and check out if there are some 'new' birds around.

The rotting Date palms seem to prove my idea of this having been a farm before |

From Kuwait 2012 |
No new birds, just the usual criminals (Laughing Dove, White-eared Bulbul, House Spassows and 2 White Wagtail).
The White-Wagtails gave me a little show of Bug hunting. Sadly, the sun was quite bright and I was to dumb to use Exposure compensation, so the white on the Waggies got a little burned out. Oh well.
I also found a new plant (new for me)
and two beetles, shimmering golden on the top -which you of course can't see thanks to my camera skills today ;)
The ones I usually get to see here are simply black on top with varying degrees of 'bumps' on their backs.
There is one old house left, still inhabited, some greenery around it, which attracts butterflies (thanks for the ID
Keith! There were about 6 of the same).
I wonder how long this little paradise will last until the encroaching 'civilization' will finally swallow it all.

Road construction and encroaching civilization |

From Kuwait 2012 |
Someone ID-ed this tree the other day on Project Noah, but it was on some other spotting and I didn't write down the name. Gggrrr....
The fruits are edible when ripe
There are some people that try to make this place look a bit better
and others that don't give a shit

From Kuwait 2012 |
This one's probably my favorite photo of the day. I snuck it when shooting the tree
Great photos Nicole.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bob!
DeleteI love seeing the area there through your lens.
ReplyDeleteIt seems there is a lot of construction going on.
The butterfly is a Painted Lady; we had loads over here a couple of years ago.
Sad that some people think the planet is their own personal dumping ground.
A 'lot' is an understatement. And a lot of the stuff already built is empty or the last finishing touches are missing for whatever reason.
DeleteThanks for the butterfly ID!
What happened to yours?
Yes, we have a lot of those kind of people here, they just never learned it any other way :(
the old vs new says it all, doesn't it? so sad to see the trash and ravages of construction. (and you meant to say 2012 in your title. :))
ReplyDeleteGrin, somehow the 12 hasn't caught up with me yet ;-)
DeleteYep, I have recently talked to someone who lives in this area since 10 years and he says all those new buildings haven't been here ten years ago.
I enjoyed your neighborhood walk. I hope that old house doesn't get swallowed up by construction. It's very appealing.
ReplyDeleteYup, I hope so too
DeleteI love sharing your walks -- you make it seem like I was there with you! (I like the way you can show the good/beautiful and the bad/ugly both. Your usual suspects (the birds) are all exotic to me and I'd be thrilled to see them. The last picture is a great character study and deserves to be your favorite among what are all fine pictures.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them :-)
DeleteI love the image of the painted lady - so pretty! And it is a treat seeing Kuwait through your eyes. Civilization seems to be encroaching on nature all over the world.
ReplyDeleteSadly that seems to be the case and humans are not waking up in time :(
DeleteA wonderful view of your current home Nicole... so much change going on.
ReplyDeleteYour images are lovely to see..
Thanks, Andrew
DeleteI think I like the Old vs the New buildings...glad to see some of the inhabitants do care about their surroundings...The man in the photo has a LOT Of rope to sort thru...love that shot.
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to see this place 20years ago
DeleteBeautiful photos, Nicole! I like the buildings and the scenery. Your close-ups are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks :)!
DeleteI am surprised to see so much green there. Anything like a nature reserve, botanical garden, bird habitat protection area? Where you would find protected indigenous wildflowers?
ReplyDeleteThose green trees are similar to Mesquite trees. They suck the water from deep down in the ground.
DeleteThere are those areas (one, the Pivot fields I showed a while back). Most are farther in the North or South though.
The parks we have here are trees, some grass and some even do have flowers.
But protected plants? Sadly, not so much (unless they are inside the preserve, than they stay a chance of thriving)
ha ha— "check out if there are some new birds around."
ReplyDeleteSo happy to have found you again! Thanks for the refresher course on editing my bloglist!
love the marigolds behind the drainpipe
ReplyDeleteGlad you are here ;)
DeleteNicole, great series of photos from your neighborhood. Neat seeing the older houses with the newer condo type rising up around them. I love the white wagtail and the pretty butterfly and the flowers are gorgeous. I for one would like to more farmland land and green areas preserved. Wonderful photo from your walk. Have a Happy Sunday!
